In-House News.

Last week (14/09/2025-17/09/2025), two of our HIRUZ Data Management Unit (DMU) colleagues, Ellen Fraussen and Simon Vanderschaeghe, joined the annual REDCap Conference in the US. This year, Simon was presented with the 2025 “Most Valuable Player (MVP)” Award.

The REDCap “MVP” Award is a prestigious recognition from the REDCap Consortium for individuals who provide outstanding contributions and support to the global community of REDCap users and administrators. The award celebrates members who actively excel in several key areas, such as developing innovative REDCap modules, actively participating in the community, offering crucial support and guidance to other administrators, and influencing the platform’s evolution through their expertise and suggestions.

When you consider that REDCap has been rolled out in more than 160 countries worldwide (and thus is currently implemented in over 8,000 institutions), this award has exceptional significance: it’s a recognition of key knowledge / expertise. In the first place Simon’s expertise and that of his DMU colleagues. In the broader sense, that of HIRUZ and therefore UZ Gent as an academic research institution.

A well-deserved congratulations, Simon!
