Until now, an fellowship grant for strategic basic research was only open to projects that had the potential to create economic added value over time. Starting with the next call, which opens on Dec. 3, 2024, the program will also be open to strategic basic research with societal impact. The grant should enable researchers to acquire new knowledge and insights that can eventually be applied to generate societal impact. The FWO is thus further expanding the offer for aspirants with the aim of contributing to the development of excellent researchers who can provide solutions to societal challenges in the future. The FWO will further explain the strategic basic research option with societal impact during the information sessions for aspirants in December.
