What is a biospecimen?

Human biospecimens are defined as any biological material taken from a human individual for diagnostic or research purposes. 

Some examples are:

  • Tissues (skin, tumours, bone,…)
  • Cells
  • Fluids (blood, cerebral spinal fluid, urine, saliva,…)
