The aim of innovation mandates is to carry out strategic basic research whith a view to transferring research results to the industry, either to an existing company or to a newly created spin-off company.
Intake meetings
VLAIO organises intake meeting on 5 and 24 February 2026, for different scientific domains. Please register using this form.
VLAIO expects a short summary of the project and the questions you have (max. 1 page). Every intake takes about 1 hour.

We ask you to register your application as early as possible to vlaams-federaal@ugent.be, so we can guide you through the administration. Not all project information has to be known already.
Candidates submitting an innovation mandate with a spin-off finality are requested to make a personal appointment with the TechTransfer department (kamila.mascart@ugent.be or karen.cure@ugent.be) at least three weeks before submission deadline. A prior and thorough involvement of TechTransfer is an important selection criterion for this type of mandate (see Innovation Mandates manual, page 4).
